This country produces roughly 15% of world production. Popayan is grown on volcanic soil at altitude, on the foothills of the Andes cordillera in south-western Colombia, in the Cauca department. The bean size of the Supremo is larger than that of the Excelso grade. Supremo mainly comes from the private sector and its production is very carefully managed.
